Occupational safety, electric mobility

Specialist in High-Voltage and Alternative Drive Technology

Anyone working on electric and hybrid vehicles needs a qualification level under DGUV Information 209-093, depending on their tasks. Our programme takes you through five modules, from the basics of electrical engineering through all high-voltage levels to diagnostics, vehicles damaged in accidents and career development. Each module can be booked separately.

Levels
1S to 3S, 1E to 3E

Who the course is for

For staff from automotive and electrical trades who work or will work on high-voltage systems in workshops, car dealerships, fleet operations, research, development or production. The S levels apply to series-production vehicles, the E levels to research, development and production.

The five modules

Module A: Basic vocational qualification in electrical engineering and mathematics (40 UE, online). Refreshes your maths and electrical engineering fundamentals so that you can get started in high-voltage technology.

Module B: Specialist in high-voltage and alternative drive technology (1SE, 2SE and 3SE) (136 UE, of which 48 UE in person). Introduction to high voltage, electrical engineering with a focus on high-voltage systems, law and organisation, protective measures, PPE and measurement, vehicle- and battery-specific knowledge. In the in-person sessions you practise isolating the vehicle and take the practical examinations.

Module C: System diagnostics, charging and drive technology in electromobility (80 UE, online). Power electronics, electric machines, drivetrain, charging and diagnostics, with exercises and simulations.

Module D: Specialist qualification in Li-ion incidents and contaminated areas (32 UE, one day online, three days in person). Handling damaged batteries and areas contaminated after a fire, with practical exercises in protective equipment.

Module E: Digital working and career management in electrical engineering and e-mobility (80 UE, online). Digital tools, project work and a personal development plan.

How the course works

The theory is taught live online in a virtual classroom, with no self-study components. Practical work and practical examinations take place in person, because DGUV Information 209-093 requires exercises on the vehicle for the higher levels. The recommended order is A, B, C, D, E.

Exam and certificate

In Module B you take a separate examination for each level: 1S and 1E online, 2S/2E and 3S/3E in person with theory and practice. After each examination you pass, you receive the certificate for that level. The other modules end with an examination and a certificate.

FAQs

Which level do I need?

That depends on your work. For non-electrical work on the vehicle, 1S is sufficient; isolating the system requires 2S, and live working requires 3S. During your consultation we match your tasks to the right level. Find out more in our blog post on the levels.

Can I book individual modules only?

Yes. Each module can be booked separately. If you already have a grounding in electrical engineering, you can start directly with Module B, for example.

What prior knowledge do I need?

For the high-voltage levels, technical vocational training, for example in an automotive or electrical trade. Before level 3E we assess your knowledge, as required by DGUV Information 209-093.
